Industry Day Motivates Sector Development: OCCI Chairman

Muscat, 8 Feb (ONA) —- Eng. Rida Juma Al Saleh, Chairman of Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), has said that the Industry Day celebration is an incentive as well as a motivation move for industrialists to develop the industrial sector, which is one of the priority sectors in supporting the Sultanate of Oman’s directions towards economic diversification.

He pointed out that the partnership with the private sector starts with the role entrusted to it in stimulating the economic growth, especially since the celebration of Omani Industry Day coincides with the economic stimulus plan that includes many incentives, whether related to taxes or improving the business environment, investment and support for small and medium enterprises.

He clarified that the seventy-two investment opportunities that were presented in the industrial sector represent an incentive for the private sector to enhance the sector’s different contributions in the industrial sector as well as the development of the national industries.

He added that the role of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry includes a number of pillars that enable the private sector to contribute to the advancement of the sector. The pillar, he explained, is the study of legislation, regulations, plans and policies related to the industrial sector, and forwarding the different suggestions and recommendations to the competent authorities, as well as studying and researching the problems and issues presented to the committee by the industrialists, including the proposed draft laws related to the industrial sector, and proposing the appropriate solutions in this regard, as well as conducting field visits to the industrial projects to identify their problems, if necessary.

He further added that the Chamber’s role in supporting the industrial sector in the Sultanate of Oman also includes promoting the national product, through organizing and holding exhibitions of the Omani products abroad and finding suitable ways to provide more support for the industrial projects in order to enhance the national products’ ability to compete with similar foreign products and support their exports abroad.

The OCCI also encourages the industrialists to adhere to the approved standard specifications by the competent authorities, whether in regard to resources or exports and product quality, in order to enhance the national product ability to compete, he explained.

Eng. Rida affirmed that protecting the common interests of the industrial sector and representing Oman in local, Gulf, Arab and international conferences, seminars, meetings and conferences related to the industry is a part of the Chamber’s interests.
